Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic variety earned her acclaim across a range of genres ranging from period drama to thriller and action adventure. Johansson is the daughter of a film producer and architect. She was raised by New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. She developed an interest in acting at an early age, and began auditioning for commercials at age seven. After a short time, she began studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Then, in the following years there was a Professional Children's School was opened in Manhattan. When she was eight years old, she starred with Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in Off-Broadway productions. And at age nine her debut film was Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson later appeared in Just Cause (1995) but her breakthrough was Manny & Lo (1996) which was a film about abandoned sisters who escape. The Horse Whisperer (1998), in which Johansson plays an teen girl who has facial disfigurement, received praise from reviewers. Then she was hailed as cynical teenager Rebecca in Ghost World. She attended the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
